Research Field

The program includes six research fields: (1) Physical Education and Sport Culture, (2) Sport Management and Policy, (3) Physical Education and Sport Education, (4) Exercise Life Sciences, (5) Health and Human Performance Studies, and (6) Human Movement and Sport Coaching Science. All students belong to one of these fields, and the graduation title is Doctor of Philosophy in Health and Sport Sciences, or Ph.D.


1. Physical Education and Sport Culture

This field consists of Physical Education and sport Philosophy, sport Ethics, Physical Education and sport History, Sport Anthropology, Martial Arts (Budo), and Body Culture. In these areas, research is carried out via methods of cultural science to generate relevant empirical discussions.

This field consists of Sociology of Sport, Sociology of Physical Education, Management of Physical Education and Sport, Sport Law, Sport Policy, Physical Education and Sport Administration, and Public Finance. In these areas, research is carried out via methods of social science to generate relevant empirical discussions.

This field consists of sport Pedagogy, Adapted sport Studies, Psychology for Physical Education and Sport, and Sport Counseling Studies. In these areas, research is conducted through methods of both cultural and social science to generate relevant empirical discussions.

This field consists of Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, and Exercise Nutritional Science. In these areas, a wide range of research, from fundamental to practical, is carried out through natural science methods.

5. Health and Human Performance Sciences

This field consists of Human Growth and Development, Anatomy for Human Performance, Health and Fitness for Active Living, Physical Fitness and Human Performance, Measurement and Evaluation for Physical Education and Sport, Athletes Health Science, and Physical Fitness Pedagogy. In these areas, research encompasses a wide range, from basic to practical studies.

6. Exercise and Sport Coaching Science

This field is organized into Sport Biomechanics, Training Theory, Individual Sport Coaching Theory, and Ball Game Coaching Theory. The aim of this field is to establish a scientific basis for exercise and coaching by using scientific methods related to improvement in exercise and sport performance.
